Google's wireless earphone "Pixel Buds"-9 useful functions introduced

Google's 2nd generation "Pixel Buds" are excellent. The sound quality is good, it's sweat resistant, and it fits comfortably in your ear thanks to three sizes of interchangeable eartips and a fixing arch that fits in your ear cavity. But the strengths are not limited to fit and sound quality. For example, this little gadget lets you check your incoming emails with Google Assistant, and even though it doesn't have active noise cancellation, it automatically adjusts the volume according to the noise level around you.

From pairing and checking battery level to pairing with non-Android devices, here's what you need to know about Pixel Buds.

1. Setup is super easy

It takes less than 30 seconds to pair the Pixel Buds with an Android smartphone or tablet. Is true. Just open the Pixel Buds wireless charging case near your unlocked phone and wait for a notification to pop up on your screen. Like the video below.

When a notification appears, tap it. Let the Pixel Buds and your phone do the rest. Notice that the notification says to connect the Pixel Buds to your Google account. This means that once connected, all Android devices and Pixel Buds that are logged in with the same account can be instantly connected. Simply open the Pixel Buds charging case near another smartphone or tablet and tap when the device's screen displays a notification that says something like "Device is ready to connect."

When you pair your device with Pixel Buds, a notification will appear asking if you want to install the Pixel Buds app on your device. The answer is yes. With the app, you will be able to use various functions of Pixel Buds.

If the Pixel Buds are paired with a Pixel series smartphone, there is no need to install the app. These devices come with pre-installed apps. The app can be opened by tapping the gear icon to the right of Pixel Buds in the list of connected devices that appears when you open Bluetooth settings.

The method of pairing with devices other than Android will be introduced at the end of this article.

2. Checking the remaining battery power is easy

There are two ways to check the remaining battery power of the Pixel Buds earphones. When you open the app with the Pixel Buds connected, the remaining battery level of the earphones is displayed separately on the left and right at the top of the screen. Alternatively, unlock the smartphone and open the charging case with the earphones in it nearby, and after a few seconds the remaining battery of the charging case and left and right earphones will be displayed.

To charge the wireless charging case, place it on the wireless charging pad or use the USB Type-C port on the bottom of the case.

3. Basic operation

The left and right earphones are equipped with a touch panel-like function. By tapping or swiping the surface, you can play/pause music or have Google Assistant read out notifications. Let's introduce the main operations.

4. Convenient "wear detection" function

No need to pause the song before removing the earphones. The earbuds detect when they're out of your ears, and when you remove one, the song automatically pauses. When you put it back on your ear, it resumes.

5. Magical Volume Control

Pixel Buds automatically adjust the volume depending on whether the user's surroundings are quiet or noisy. This "adaptive sound" feature is disabled by default, but we recommend enabling it.

To enable it, open the Pixel Buds app or the settings page, tap "Sound" and turn on the switch to the right of "Adaptive Sound" on the page that opens.

When adaptive sound is enabled, the Pixel Buds subtly adjust the volume according to changes in the ambient noise level. After the user manually adjusts the volume, it is temporarily disabled until the ambient noise level changes significantly. Very cool feature.

6. Set up Google Assistant

When the initial pairing is completed, you will be asked if you want to set up the Pixel Buds to use Google Assistant. Once set up, Google Assistant will read out new notifications from preconfigured apps so you can send voice replies without opening your phone.

Of course, you can also use the usual Google Assistant tasks such as operating smart home appliances.

By tapping "Google Assistant" on the Pixel Buds app and starting the settings, you can configure settings such as access to Google Assistant's voice notifications. During this process, you can set which apps will automatically read you notifications and whether the Pixel Buds will respond to the wake word "Hey Google."

7. Searching for missing earphones

Completely wireless earphones are convenient, but they are also easy to lose. While listening to your favorite music, you may accidentally remove one earbud, place it next to it, and move it. Thankfully, the Pixel Buds app has the ability to find lost earbuds.

Open the app and select "Find my device". Tap "Ring Right (or Left)" and listen carefully. If you are near it, your earphones will start ringing. It starts out quietly at first and then gradually gets louder until you find it.

8. Connect with iPhone, PC, Mac

Pixel Buds can be used with "iPhone", "iPad", "Mac", and PC as long as the device supports Bluetooth. Sure, you can't use some of the advanced features like quick pairing or using the Google Assistant, but there are many things you can do. You can pause and play music, adjust the volume with gestures, and tap to operate.

Here's how to connect your Pixel Buds to non-Android devices.

  1. Open the charging case containing the Pixel Buds and press and hold the pairing button on the back of the case.
  2. A white light (status light) flashes between the left and right earbuds.
  3. Open the Bluetooth settings menu on the device you want to connect to and look for Pixel Buds.
  4. Select the Pixel Buds in your device's menu and follow the instructions to complete pairing.

9. Resetting the Pixel Buds

If you end up giving away your Pixel Buds to someone else, or just want to reset the settings, you can easily do a factory reset. Can be reset to time. While charging the charging case with the Pixel Buds open with the included USB Type-C cable, press and hold the button on the back until the status light stops blinking.

When you release the button, the light flashes white and orange for a few seconds, then white. The reset is now complete.
