[Nishikawa's irregular column] Na'ao "ColorEdge CG245W-BK" ~ built-in calibration sensor 24.1 IPS liquid crystal

 Nana'o 's "ColorEdge CG21", which the author has used as the main monitor for many years, is also the seventh year next year. Color is fine as long as it is expressed in sRGB, but although it is important to deal with it, the rise and brightness still decline.

 Therefore, when looking for the next main display, I chose the "ColorEdge CG245W-BK" that I care about when I publish it! Provide a usage report immediately after setting up.

 The main point when choosing the main display is that the original "ColorEdge CG21" is 21 1600 × 1200 dots (UXGA), so keep it vertically. Therefore, if it is a wide width type, it becomes type 24 1920 × 1200 point (WUXGA). The panel wants an IPS with a wide field of view. With regard to display, sRGB is usually used, so AdobeRGB coverage is also OK accordingly.

 If so, even cheaper monitors have corresponding models, but in addition, the condition is that the hardware is calibrated and the sunshade can be installed. At this time, the target model is limited, and the price will jump. Compared with the software calibration which controls the video card and adjusts the color, the hardware calibration has higher precision because it directly adjusts the look-up table inside the display, so it is a necessary function for the high-end display.

 After various considerations, it was decided to be the "ColorEdge CG245W-BK". The decisive factor is the "built-in calibration sensor". The main specifications are as follows:

 The panel is 24.1 IPS. There is no non-glossy (non-glossy) reflection and can work calmly. In addition, since the viewing angle is 178 degrees up / down / left / right, it is not a problem even if it deviates slightly from the front of the display. The maximum resolution is 1920 × 1200 points, which is slightly wider than full HD. Compared with type 21 CG21, it is the same longitudinally in terms of size and resolution. Only the horizontal width is slightly wider, and the resolution is also improved accordingly.

 Display colors support 10bit colors. However, in order to make it effective, a video card corresponding to the 10bit output such as the "ATI FirePro" series needs to be connected via DisplayPort. On this point, I intend to create an environment at the beginning of next year (2011), so I would like to report again. The wide color gamut shows that the AdobeRGB coverage is 98% compared to 102%. Usually the author uses sRGB homework, so there are enough.

 The inputs are DVI-D × 2 and DisplayPort × 1. Mini D-Sub15 pins and HDMI terminals are not installed. Leaving aside the mini D-Sub15 pins, I'd be happy to have HDMI input, but because there are some differences in use, few people care about it.

 The USB port provides one for upstream and has two USB Hub. In addition, it is also connected with the calibration sensor internally.

 Accessories, each cable, sunshade, ColorNavigator,ScreenCleaner, adjustment data sheet. There is no need to buy a separate hood, and the hood can be placed vertically. If there is room for two, one wants to use it vertically.

 The biggest focus is the first "calibration sensor built-in" of the ColorEdge series. Generally speaking, the calibration sensor is external, and when adjusting the color of the display, it is placed in the center of the display to move the calibration software, but because of the built-in of this product, there is no need to set up the sensor. Moreover, as the deviation of the LCD panel and sensor is also adjusted when it leaves the factory, high-precision calibration can be expected, which is exactly killing two birds with one stone. In addition to the adjustment from "ColorNavigator", it also supports the adjustment of using the monitor alone, so the environment such as OS is not selected.

 OSD color: brightness / contrast / color temperature / gamma / detailed settings / color reset, screen: image size / range expansion / analog adjustment, PowerManager: power saving / lamp brightness, menu settings: language selection / installation direction / menu position Tools: input switching / overdrive / mode setting / input signal information / display information / full reset, etc.

 The buttons are arranged in the order of [POWER], [MENU/ENTER], [SIGNAL], [EXIT/CANCEL], [CAL], [MODE], [SIGNAL] from the right. Because the Button Guide is displayed on the physical button on the monitor, no manual is required. [CAL] is used for automatic calibration described later. You can set brightness, white point, gamma, schedule, etc.

 So, the impression of the actual replacement is "just like the atmosphere that has been used before". This is because the manufacturer is the same, the design is also very similar, and the height remains the same, the width is slightly wider, it can be beautifully incorporated in the original setting place. Of course, because it is new, the picture is very bright, although only this difference, but the color of the sRGB itself is almost the same. No sense of disobedience, accustomed to the table. However, at the beginning of the actual work, the width becomes slightly wider and the line of sight swings slightly from side to side, which seems to be something to get used to. Anyway, so far it's the same as expected.

 But as soon as you move the built-in calibration sensor, it becomes "this is amazing!"

●圧巻の自動キャリブレーション

 The biggest feature of this "ColorEdge CG245W" is the built-in calibration sensor, as written at the beginning. There are many kinds of external calibration sensors, which are used interestingly at first, but they are laborious to install and gradually become less and less used. But if it's a built-in monitor, it's no trouble. Turn it on when you have time. It will be ready in a few minutes or so. In this way, it can be easily adjusted at any time.

 There are two ways to use the built-in calibration sensor. One is to adjust the display individually, and the other is to connect to the PC through USB and use the attached "ColorNavigator" to adjust.

 In the case of the former, it has nothing to do with the PC and OS used and is done only by the monitor. It is convenient to set goals and schedules in OSD and then calibrate them at will through the set schedules. At this point, you can specify "power saving" in the schedule (the front panel is powered off), which can be adjusted during the unused period of time, which is very high.

 The latter is done manually using the accompanying software "ColorNavigator". The supported OS is Windows7/Vista/XP (for each 32/64bit) and Mac OS X10.3.9 for 10.6 (except for PowerPC). The operation is very simple. Simply select the target in the form of a wizard (for example, sRGB, 80cd/ square m, D65, black level minimum, 2.2) and measure. In addition, with regard to gamma, you can also choose "grey balance priority" or "contrast priority".

 You can manage multiple targets or switch from the "ColorNavigator Agent" in the task tray with one click. In the author's case, in the photo display, the general luminance "80cd/ square m" is too dazzling when writing the manuscript, so add an "60cd/ square m" and use it while switching.

 The chart is created using the ColorSync utility that ships with Mac OS X. One is the comparison between AdobeRGB and panel native machine. The light gray (back) chart is a feature of CG245W, and the colored chart (front) is the color space of the object itself. It can be seen that the coverage, including sRGB simulation, is quite high. However, if you adjust separately without using "ColorNavigator", the ICC profile will not be created.

 The calibration sensor is embedded in the upper bezel when the center moves 90 degrees. When the measurement begins, the calibration sensor automatically rotates and fixed 90 degrees. The general calibration sensor uses the center of the screen, and this built-in calibration sensor is measured in the upper center of the screen.

 When using an external sensor, the characteristics of the panel are not good if the measurement is not carried out in the center of the picture, but with regard to "CG245W", there is no problem with the accuracy itself because of the correction data of one set in the center and the part of the measurement. After the adjustment, automatically rotate 90 degrees and put it in the same place. Because the actual action is published in the animation, I want to include the time spent.

 This is done automatically on the set schedule, and if you always adjust the state, you will be in a good mood.

 The author does not have multiple monitors of this level, so he does not use the function, but it also corresponds to "collection", with "Correlation Utility". This is the function of correcting the measurement results of the built-in calibration sensor and matching the measurement results of another calibration sensor. Even in an environment with unified color management on multiple monitors, it can be operated directly with built-in calibration sensors.


 As mentioned above, "ColorEdge CG245W" carries an IPS panel of 24.1 UWXGA. AdobeRGB coverage 98%, NTSC ratio 102%, 10bit color display, hardware calibration, etc., as LCD has high-end features, and built-in calibration sensor, is fully automatically adjusted to the target value of the powerful display.

 The price is 209790 yen, which is a bit expensive, but if considered as the main monitor that has not been replaced for several years, it is fully commensurate with its investment. For users who stick to color, it can be said to be the best treasure.
