Also available on Android. How to set the virtual background of Zoom
Remote work in 2020 doesn't seem to be that much fun.
At best, attend a Zoom web conference from a tropical resort. Of course, even if you are not actually in the resort area, you can use the virtual background to create the atmosphere of the resort.
Another real benefit of Zoom's popular virtual backgrounds is that you don't have to show your co-workers a cluttered telecommuting room.
This Zoom virtual background feature is finally available on Android.
Virtual backgrounds have been added in the latest update of the Zoom app.
This update adds many bug fixes and subtle tweaks, as well as useful features such as breakout rooms and calendar integration. You can download it now from Google Play if you want.
With virtual backgrounds, you can add a personal touch to your Zoom meetings or even hide cluttered backgrounds.
But that's not all. You can also focus on yourself or set it to a more professional feel (as long as you're using the right image).
How to set Zoom virtual background on Android
- Open the Zoom app to join or start a new meeting.
- When you join a meeting and the video feed is active, tap the screen to display the in-call menu.
- Tap "Details".
- Tap "Virtual Background".
- Slide the list of available background thumbnails and tap one to enable it.
- If you want to turn off the virtual background, select the "None" thumbnail.
Virtual backgrounds can be enabled at any time, but they work best when set against plain walls or green screens in brightly lit environments, as it makes it easier for the app to distinguish between the user and their surroundings.
How to make an image on your smartphone a virtual background
Unlike the desktop virtual background feature, Zoom's Android app only supports still images, so you can't use animated GIFs or videos.
The app includes Golden Gate Bridge, outer space, pictures of nature, etc. as default virtual backgrounds, but you can also add your own background. And the process is much easier on Android than on desktop PCs.
- Join the meeting and go to "Details"-> "Virtual Background".
- Tap the "+" thumbnail at the right end of the background selection menu.
- Browse the files on your smartphone, select the image you want as the virtual background, and the image will be automatically cropped to meet Zoom's requirements.
- Tap the newly added background to enable it in Zoom.
