Google Shows Plans for Further Cloud Regions-Infrastructure Expansion Around the World

Google announced on December 2 that it will open new regions for Google Cloud in Columbus, Ohio and Dallas, Texas. It also plans to expand the company's infrastructure around the world to enable local users to run apps faster.

The company announced that it would open a new region of Israel near Tel Aviv and outlined its expansion in South America, Europe and the Middle East.

Google's Chrome may dominate the web world, but in the cloud the company ranks third behind Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. To dispel that image, Google is trying to make its public cloud more attractive than its competitors. Google Cloud is still in the red, but quarterly sales are about $ 4 billion.

Google Cloud currently has 29 cloud regions and 88 zones, up from 25 regions and 76 zones as of April 2021. This will enable customers to provide their customers with computing and storage resources that are closer to their users, as well as their analytics and content delivery networks (CDNs).

In 2021, new regions such as Warsaw in Poland, Delhi metropolitan area in India, Melbourne in Australia and Toronto in Canada were announced. The new region of Tel Aviv follows. It will help start-ups grow in scale.

Another milestone for Google Cloud is the announcement of a partnership with Germany's T-Systems in September to provide the next-generation cloud in Germany. In addition, the company plans to invest 1 billion euros (about 130 billion yen) in Germany by 2030 to build cloud infrastructure. It is building a data center in Berlin Brandenburg and will expand Frankfurt's cloud region in 2022.

In Saudi Arabia, the location of the new cloud region will be Dammam. The office in Riyadh is also looking for talent to support the development and operation of the region.

Also, the Santiago region is now available. Customers include financial services Caja Los Andes, healthcare provider Red Salud, and LATAM Airlines.

The new regions in Columbus and Dallas will help local businesses operate lower-latency, mission-critical services.
