Orihara In 2021, Toshiba REGZA will add a new 4K LCD TV "Z670K" to its lineup. A large screen size of 75 inches, which is suitable for living theaters, is also available.

Motomura: I think that until now, when it comes to home theaters, people tend to think of it as "a screen" or "a projector", but now that it's this size, it's become commonplace to have a home theater on a TV. Na. I honestly think so.

Orihara: Please tell us about the image quality of the "75Z670K". It is equipped with the newly developed REGZA engine "ZR I".

Sumiyoshi: First of all, the biggest point is that the SoC part has changed significantly. It also supports HDMI 2.1 and 4K/120p. It is also a big evolution point that HDR images can be expressed more beautifully. What stands out badly on a large screen size display is the blurring effect and mosquito noise of terrestrial digital broadcasting, which originally has a low resolution. With the 75Z670K, the question is how much detail is restored by "Resolution Plus" and how to suppress the mosquito noise around the telop. That's pretty well controlled.

Orihara: Starting with the 2021 model, there is Toshiba's unique high-definition technology called "Natural Skin Tone" as a new function. It is also included in the 75Z670K.

Motomura Yes. When she was watching the drama, she noticed that the color of people's faces changed depending on the cuts, and said, "This is strange." Depending on the content, it can be greenish or reddish. In one drama, the same performers are blue, yellowish green, and reddish. When I told Mr. Sumiyoshi, "This is strange, isn't it?", he said, "Leave it to me."

Orihara: This is quite a big discovery, isn't it?

Motomura: We created it while listening to Professor Masako Yamada of Saitama Women's Junior College, who is researching human skin.

Sumiyoshi Humans are very sensitive to people's faces. Especially when the color shifts in the direction of yellow, I feel a sense of incongruity. In such scenes, 3D color management control is performed.

Orihara: So you're saying that skin tones that you don't like will never appear?

Sumiyoshi: Within a certain range.

Orihara 　Information programs include outdoor locations and wipes. It seems difficult to control if something with a completely different environment is included.

Sumiyoshi: There are also cases where the production is intentional. I'll correct it so that you don't feel uncomfortable. It is a technique to let out what comes naturally naturally.

Orihara: Also, the 75Z670K uses a special panel with excellent viewing angle characteristics, right?

Sumiyoshi Yes. The bright contrast is good, so it is also an advantage that you can see it in high contrast even when you watch it in the daytime in the living room.

Orihara: In terms of sound quality, the 75Z670K has special speaker specifications.

Arafune: A major point is that a total of four tweeters are placed on the top of the fuselage. Moreover, the neodymium magnet is adopted and the efficiency is raised. With these, the amount of energy of the sound coming from above, including the reflected sound from the ceiling and walls and the sound that comes around, is increased and the sound image is lifted. Combined with the group of rear woofers, the effect is as if the sound is coming from the center of the screen.

Orihara: It's true that the sound image was in the center of the screen, and that connected to the sense of unity and realism with the video, which left a very good impression.

Motomura: Even in terms of cost performance, there shouldn't be many models in this price range with a total output of 60W and 11 speakers.

The first Android-equipped model, and the "recording list" button is also noteworthy

Orihara: Are there any features that you would like us to pay attention to in the sense that they are for living theaters?

Motomura REGZA automatically adjusts the image quality according to the brightness of the room, so it's easy on the eyes and safe for families with children. Blue light cut is also supported, so you can suppress the difficulty of falling asleep at night.

Orihara Lastly, please tell us about the evolution of operability. The Z670K series has newly adopted Android TV.

Motomura: There are TVs equipped with Android by other companies, but in a nutshell, REGZA is "Android that is strong in recording". The major evolution point is that the UI is basically managed on the cloud. After turning on the power, we recommend that you press the "recording list" first. With just this, the program you want to watch will appear here. If the customer makes a request such as "I like variety shows", "I like dramas", "I like music programs" or "I like anime", it will be automatically recorded. You can also seamlessly display "Which YouTube do you want to watch?"

Orihara: As a REGZA fan, I was relieved that even though the OS changed to Android, my favorite newspaper latte column style program guide GUI was almost perfectly followed (laughs).

Motomura: When we launched the REGZA brand, we made a "declaration to create the real thing" within the company. We want to impress our customers. When it comes to the excitement of television, it is the picture quality. The brand promise was to abandon the image quality of gimmicks and pursue reality. The design members have always protected it. After that, I realized that "I can only be moved by the content I want to see", so I developed a "time shift machine" that records all channels with a focus on recording. We will stoically pursue the emotional enjoyment of the content you want to see when you want to see it. This is the constant part. In newspapers, etc., it is sometimes written that "TV is over" and "It is the age of smartphones/tablets," but users are returning to large-screen TVs.
